Kundalini Yoga with Brenda Rosenfeld

Kundalini Yoga is the yoga of inner awareness, inner experience and self-discovery. It offers a way for each of us to “come back home to ourselves and reconnect with our higher self’. By strengthening, nourishing and supporting our entire being, physically, emotionally, psychologically and spiritually with Kundalini Yoga, we can be supported in fulfilling our potential and becoming the best version of ourselves.

Kundalini Yoga is an ancient and sacred technology that has a history dating back thousands of years. The practice was originally secret and handed down from teacher to student in one-to-one learnings. Group classes became more the norm when the teachings were brought to the West in the 20th Century.

Kundalini Yoga is the yoga of inner awareness. It is a science and technology for uniting the mind, body and spirit and is open to everyone regardless of religious beliefs, philosophies, yoga experience, age or physical limitations. It is non-discriminatory and non-denominational and is a yoga that is a safe and reliable support for all of us as we deal with the daily challenges and stresses that life brings.

What is Kundlini Yoga?

The goal of kundalini yoga is to awaken each of us to our full human awareness and potential. It helps to unlocks a limitless potential within ourselves, and allows each of us to experience our human consciousness beyond our physical body and experience our infinite selves. The practice gives us the tools to break through our negative and limiting beliefs and behaviours and experience higher levels of awareness that bring more peace, joy and wisdom to our lives.

Kundalini Yoga derives from the Sanskrit word “Kundal” which translates to “coiled energy”. We all have energy that is gathered at the base of our spine. Through the practice of Kundalini Yoga, we can start to awaken the energy, bringing it up our spine and clearing and balancing all of our energy channels (nadi’s) and chakras up to our crown chakra at the top of our head, triggering awakened states of consciousness and awareness within ourselves.

Kundalini Yoga is practiced in kriya form. A kriya is an action and each set sequence of actions is an exact “recipe” to have a specific outcome. For example, an outcome for a class could be to support the adrenal glands and kidneys to assist our stress response and release some of the negative effects of stress that our body may be carrying. The outcome for another class could be to support the strengthening of the immune system and build up resistance to dis-ease. And an outcome for another class could be to open the lungs and heart.

Each class comes with precise instructions that is a unique combination of asanas (body postures), mudras (hand positions), pranayama (breath work), mantras (sacred sound currents and intentional repeated sounds), bandhas (constrictions of particular areas of the body), meditation and shivasana (deep relaxation).

The process of growth through Kundalini Yoga is a natural unfolding of our own truth and nature. Like a snake that sheds its old skin, we need to shed our old skins to become more of who we truly are.

How does Kundalini yoga differ from other forms of yoga?

There are more than 22 major forms of yoga and all have benefits. Each can be thought of as an individual facet of a diamond. Each of the forms tends to focus on a particular element, for example, Hatha yoga is a facet that focuses on the physical form and Laya (mantra) yoga is a facet that focuses on the use of sound.

Kundalini Yoga is the complete diamond itself and incorporates ALL the facets. As it is the whole diamond itself, it gives a greater and faster leverage and transformative power that any one facet can on its own and opens pathways to change and healing that seem to go around limitations and to penetrate blocks.

Kundalini Yoga is a complete practice for all, no matter what physical limitations you may have and can be combined with any other therapy, healing or spiritual discipline.
